日本テレビが放映する「箱根駅伝」の速報をリアルタイムでチェックできる、スマートフォン・タブレット専用のウェブアプリです。
大会運営車両のGPS情報から計測した各大学の走行位置情報を、Google Map上にマッピング。チェックポイントごとの、各大学の順位や通過タイム、タイム差が中継を見ながら確認できました。さらに通過ポイントごとの高低差マップや、順位の変動グラフ、お気に入りの大学の登録と歴代の区間ベスト記録との比較など、詳細な情報を提供することで第2の解説員のような役割も果たしました。

Keep up to date with your favorite runner’s progress

A special web app for Hakone Ekiden, one of the most prominent university relay marathons in Japan. We created this app to allow viewers to closely follow their favorite runner’s progress while watching the race live on TV. The perfect companion to the TV coverage displaying real-time information at specific points as well as mapping current location data. We also included a feature allowing access to past data, so viewers could compare performance with previous years.

TV放送連動型コンテンツで大量の同時アクセスが予想されたため、AWSのCloudFrontやS3を使って負荷を回避しています。これによりアクセスが集中する駅伝の放送時間内でも、サイトがダウンしたり動作が重くなることなく安定した運用が可能となりました。またフロントサイドの細かいチューニングによって、ネイティブアプリのような軽快な動作を実現しています。

Using AWS CloudFront and S3, we successfully linked the live TV broadcast to the timing and GPS data in real-time. Both applications provided a stable system for managing large amounts of continuously updated data.
